Inspection images: prepare a broker-ready dataset brief

Count distinct inspected parts, document defect labels, and explain camera conditions so an intermediary can qualify an inspection-image inquiry.

Use this guide to describe a bounded collection and decide what evidence an intermediary needs next. It does not establish buyer acceptance, a valuation, or permission to license the material.

Use the physical item as the starting unit

Report both images and distinct parts or inspection events. Multiple views of one component may be useful, but they should not be presented as independent items. Keep a stable part or event grouping in your internal inventory and describe whether repeat captures can be identified.

Describe normal examples and rare defects

List the label vocabulary, who assigned each label, and whether a reviewer confirmed it. Separate observed defects from inferred labels and unresolved cases. A balanced demonstration sample can help explain categories, but report the original distribution separately so it does not imply equal real-world frequency.

Explain changes in capture conditions

Record camera or sensor family, lighting, resolution, production line, and time range where available. Ask whether the evaluator wants transfer across setups or a single controlled environment. If related images could occur in more than one evaluation subset, flag that grouping issue before promising performance.

Limit preparation to the evaluator’s decision

Offer a nonconfidential category-count table before image export. Ask the evaluator to name the defect classes and capture conditions it needs. Price annotation cleanup as a separate project only after that scope is clear. Exclude images with confidential part details or personal information until reviewed.
